Europhysics Letters was founded in 1986 by the European Physical Society (EPS), the Société Française de Physique (SFP) and its subsidiary EDP Sciences, the Società Italiana di Fisica (SIF) and the UK Institute of Physics (IOP). Re-branded as EPL in 2007, the journal is published under the scientific policy and control of the EPS for a not-for-profit partnership composed of 17 European physical societies (the EPL Association). EPL publishes original, high-quality Letters in all areas of physics, ranging from condensed matter topics and interdisciplinary research to astrophysics, geophysics, plasma and fusion sciences, including those with application potential.
EPL frequently provides cash prizes for best poster displays or oral presentations by young researchers attending conferences, workshops, summer schools, or other events. The Directors of the EPL Association appreciate the importance of the EPS Young Minds scheme in providing a platform for organising collaborative events involving scientific activities, networking opportunities and outreach projects amongst young researchers As a new venture the EPL Directors have decided to assist the project by donating a cash prize in order to support and encourage young researchers. EPL now provides a cash prize for the Best Activity Award at the annual EPS Young Minds event together with an opportunity to have the winning poster published in the journal and displayed on the EPL website.

2025 – 13th Young Minds Leadership Meeting, Santiago de Compostela
EPL was present at the 13th Young Minds Leadership Meeting that took place 5-6 June 2025 at the University of Santiago de Compostela and awarded two 250 EUR prizes to the YM Sections with the best activity of the year! All Sections of the Young Minds Programme conducted extraordinary activities during past year and we would like to praise their work across Europe and abroad. However, only two Sections could win our EPL Best Activity Award.
Milan Young Minds (POLIMI)
To celebrate the International Day of Light, Milan YM hosted an event at Politecnico di Milano combining science and creativity. After discussing gravitational waves and VIRGO detector, participants built simple interferometers using LEGO bricks, offering a fun and hands-on way to explore big physics ideas. Milan YM was represented by Marco da Ros and Francesco di Pasquale.
Yerevan Young Minds
Yerevan YM gathered over 500 people across Armenia for science and stargazing in Jermuk. Participants enjoyed telescope sessions, science talks, and cultural shows during the Perseid meteor shower. Visitors also explored fun physics experiments and learned about space and the universe from top scientists. Yerevan YM was represented by Siranush Asatryan.
